New Lyric Video for “In the Dark”

Hey y’all, Rachel and I are getting things ready for the release of our new album, In the Dark. So, I made a lyric video of the title track to share a bit of what it sounds like. You can check it out here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=k0pZib7Lunw. To stay updated on release dates, pre-orders and advanced copies be sure to join the mailing list at the bottom of the page. Thanks for watching! (And feel free to share…)

New Album in the Works

It’s been a little while since the last update, but I wanted to let y’all know about some exciting stuff going on. We just met with our good friends over at IFLM Records and it looks like we’ll be starting the recording process for the next album IMMEDIATELY. Without saying too much, I can tell you it’s going to be a more stripped down affair that tries to put down on tape what it sounds like when Rachel and I play our duo shows. We can’t wait to get things started…of course we’ll keep you in the loop. Please do sign up on the mailing list if you want to keep up! Take it easy, -matt & rachel

Matt Covers Kent Finlay Tune on Companion Album to Legend’s Biography

Hey y’all, I just wanted to remind y’all to mark your calendars for March 2, 2016. Why? Well, it is Texas Independence Day for one. But it’s also the day that the “Kent Finlay – Dreamer” biography comes out! And with it comes a tribute compilation album with some of my favorite musicians playing Kent’s tunes (Adam Carroll, James McMurtry, Jamie Wilson and so many more). I took my turn covering “The Songwriter” and the collection really highlights how many great songs this Texas legend wrote. We’ll be doing a celebration at Waterloo Records in Austin on March 6…until then, you can read up on things here: kentfinlaydreamer.com/

Unreleased Song Recorded for Polished Steel’s ‘On the Record’ Series

Well, it’s been more than a year since I released Raven Hotel, and I’ve been writing some new songs for another album. But until now, I haven’t been in a studio to cut anything to share. Enter Polished Steel, a website curated by author and music aficionado, Brian T. Atkinson. They’re doing a series called “On the Record” where musicians stop by and do a quick take of an unreleased song.  So, thanks to Polished Steel, I’m excited to share a new tune called “The Time is Now.” Rachel and I recorded it at the Woodshed in San Marcos, right next door to the legendary Cheatham Street Warehouse. Hope you dig it! Listen here: soundcloud.com/polished-steel-361567948/matt-harlan-the-time-is-now
