Visiting the Ghosts of Hometowns Past

This weekend I get to revisit not one, but two of my former hometowns for a couple of cool shows. First off, I’ll be bringing a band to The Cove in San Antonio on Friday (11/7). (Amy Black will be opening that show.) Then, it’s off to Austin to play Strange Brew on Sunday (11/9) with Raven Hotel producer, Rich Brotherton. This one will be a double-bill with Judy & Rose as they release their brand-new, Brotherton-produced album. Hope to see some old ghosts hanging around!

Live Recording at Anderson Fair

Well, it looks like Rachel and I are going to try our hand at recording this Saturday’s duo show at the historically excellent Anderson Fair in Houston (10/18). If you ever wanted to hear yourself clapping on a live album, this could be your chance!

TWELVE Photo Auction is Live (Thru Saturday)

Hey y’all! The folks at TWELVE have posted the selected photos from our attempts to document the wanderings of musicians out on the road. You can view and place your bids on them here: www.twelvepeople.org/auction. The auction will stay open until 9pm on Saturday, Oct. 11th. Mine is a picture of the Terlingua Ghost Town sign way out in West Texas. Check out all 12!

Matt Joins Up with the Twelve Project: Taking Pictures for a Good Cause

I recently had a strange device put in my hands and was told to go out and shoot whatever I saw! And the thing was loaded! Luckily, it was just an old Olympus 35mm camera. But it was loaded with real film, instead of some memory stick.  I hadn’t picked up an honest-to-goodness camera in years until the kind folks at the TWELVE project (www.twelvepeople.org) invited me to join 11 other musicians to document life behind the mic. The project benefits arts-loving kids in the Galveston, TX area and will feature photos and performances by some of my favorite artists (Hayes Carll, Carrie Rodriguez, Joe Pug, Jamie Wilson, Walt Wilkins, just to name a few) .  Check the website above to find out more about the project, then check back for my photos or come hear me and Walt Wilkins swap songs and stories on Nov. 20 in Galveston.
